SELFLESSNESS (SUNDAY MORNING OF JULY 9, 2017)
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)
“…Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him…And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.” (Luke 22:40-46) “…And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch…And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt…Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.” (Mark 14:33-38)
“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” (Luke 6:45)
“Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, does not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil…beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things…” (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)
“Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.” (Colossians 3:12-14)
“Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” (Colossians 3:12-14)
Love is the first fruit of the spirit. You do not become poor by giving, so love God freely and your neighbor generously. Love with a godly, selfless love.
